When do I inject Mounjaro or Wegovy?

This is a frequently asked question, and there are a few things to consider.

It doesn’t really matter what time of day you inject, because these are weekly injections.

In terms of choosing a day, it comes down to side effects and whether the injections affect your appetite on some days more than others.

If you’re one of the minority of people who has no side effects and has the same reduction in your appetite throughout the week, then please just pick a day that’s convenient and that you will remember every week and inject it then.

If you get side effects, then you will probably find that they are worse for the first day or two after you inject. If that’s the case, and the side effects are intrusive, then maybe think about the days of the week where this would be the least problem for you and inject then. Maybe you run your own business, so you need to inject on Saturday in order to be clear of side effects ready for Monday. Maybe you look after the grandkids a couple of days a week, so you need to inject the day after they have gone back to their parents? Have a think. There are no right or wrong answers, it’s all about fitting this into your own life.

Regarding your appetite, people usually find that the medication has its maximum effect about 2 days after injecting. For this reason, there was a trend on social media a while back that was #wegovywednesday. The thought behind this was that if you inject on a Wednesday then your medication should be kicking in to high gear on a Friday, just in time for the weekend which is the time of the week where most people are tempted to overindulge.

How does this affect you? Maybe Wednesday works for you for that reason, assuming that you don’t get awful side effects that make Thursday and Friday impossible. Or perhaps a different day. Is there a time of the week where you work away from home and it’s convenient to not be hungry, and then you can eat more normally with your family on the other days? Do you actually want to have more of an appetite at the weekend because that fits more with your social life, and you want to enjoy dinner with friends? Please do think about it.

Ultimately, you won’t know when the ‘right’ time for you is until you are taking the medication and you can assess the effects that it has on you personally, then you can make a fully informed decision. You can take the medication up to four days late without problems, so it’s relatively easy to shift the injection day to a different time of the week if that’s going to make it easier for you.
